Boswellia sacra: Supreme Hojari Collection

Boswellia sacra: Supreme Hojari Collection

$50.00

This is a 4 vile collection of the highly sought after Hojari frankincense that we directly sourced from our friend in Oman.

Included: Royal green, white, black, and a standard mix of Hojari.

Royal Green Hojari: This Royal Green Hojari was harvested from the Dhofar region of Oman. Omani frankincense or Hojari is considered to be the finest in the world by some and is highly sought after. The soft, plump, tears that cast a green hue are the purest and highest grade outside of the Sultan’s Royal Green Hojari, which is a private reserve of the Sultanate released only 1-2x a year in small amounts. To find the green grade many kilograms of frankincense are sorted by women over a year. The tears are organized by size, shape, and color, and then the largest pieces are reserved as the premium grade for medicine, ceremonies, or royal families. We have sourced our Omani sacra resin directly from our friend in Oman and cherish the traditional uses that seek to benefit from the boswellic acids that it contains.

Burn profile: honey, amber, spiced mint.

White or Silver: This Boswellia was harvested from the Dhofar region of Oman. Omani Hojari is considered to be the finest in the world by some and is highly sought after. At this point, trees are well taken care of and the Sultan himself mediates the exports of the resource. Though the crops are carefully tended, modern development and demand do impact sustainability. This grade is usually reserved for specialty guests, sacred ceremony, or medicinal preparations.

Burn profile: honey and sweet amber with a hint of spice.

Black: This grade is less desired in the general market, but is a favored option for those who work with aromatics. The black Omani Frankincense is affordable and has an abundance of oil that many perfumers seek to distill, to use in incense, or to scent cosmetics. It is often mixed with bark, lacks refined tear shapes, and usually consists of of clumped fragments. Although it is not the most refined, it is sourced from the most desired region in the world.

Burn profile: spiced sweet honey with gentle green notes and ripe citrus tones.

Mixed: This is a fresh and beautiful baseline grade of Hojari, or Boswellia, harvested from Oman. Some say it may be the same species as the Somalian carterii, but the debate continues. Omani Hojari, or Frankincense, is considered to be the finest in the world by some and is highly sought after. At this point, trees are well taken care of and the Sultan himself mediates the exports of the resource. Though the crops are carefully tended, modern development and demand do impact sustainability. The smaller milky and citrus colored tears are first choice for this grade & offer the traditional benefits that come with boswellic acids. Burn, infuse, chew, or blend in your cosmetics.

Burn profile: smooth spice, wood, & bright citrus tones.

Boswellia spp.

A brief overview of the frankincense family: There are approximately 20 species of this incense tree & around 12 are commercially valuable. The oleoresin is prized for high boswellic acids & aroma. Uses date back to 1500 BC. The classic species are sourced in the dry season after sections of bark are scarred to induce a gummy weep. Solidified drops, or tears, are often indigenously collected & harvests are regularly sorted by color, shape, & size. Sustainability concerns are at a heightened state due to the age of essential oils & a misunderstanding of the oleoresin properties. Boswellia essential oil is marketed for perfumery & therapeutic properties, but when the resins are distilled health benefits are lost as the boswellic acids are discarded. Often, sustainable resin is what is needed, not essential oil.
