Ghost Army Cologne

Ghost Army Cologne

In June 1944, a Secret U.S. Army unit went into action in Normandy. The weapons they deployed were decidedly unusual: hundreds of inflatable tanks and a one-of-a-kind collection of sound effects records. Their mission was to use bluff, deception, and trickery to save lives. Many were artists, some who would become famous, including a budding fashion designer named Bill Blass. They painted and sketched their way through Europe, creating a unique visual record of the their journey. The story of what these men accomplished was hushed up by the pentagon for more than forty years.

Inspired by the small unit of artistic soldiers of the 1940’s who deceived the Nazis with their unprecedented strategies of psychological warfare, “Ghost Army Cologne” gives homage & honor to those lost, while reminding us of the power of creation in times of desperation & survival.

“Ghost Army Cologne” hints of an evergreen terrain, rolled cigarettes, working men, fire, smoke, trampled mud, and a Christmas spent in war—without family.

Notes: bay rum, tobacco, evergreen.

Description: earthy, smoky, coniferous.
